Walkers Tours Wins Runners-Up at the Sustainability Awards 2024

We are proud to share that Walkers Tours has been awarded Runners-Up in the Tourism Sector – Large Enterprise Tour Operator/DMC category at the prestigious Sustainability Awards 2024. Organized by the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, this recognition celebrates our efforts to lead the way in sustainable tourism by aligning with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and addressing many UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Climate Action (SDG 13), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), and Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10).

At Walkers Tours, we believe in traveling smart while treading lightly on the environment. Our sustainability journey has been transformative, from pioneering a carbon-neutral vehicle fleet to eliminating 1.38 million single-use plastic bottles through our refillable water bottle initiative coupled with Mobile Water Filling Facilities. Our commitment to inclusivity shines through our accessible tourism initiatives, including the introduction of all-terrain wheelchairs, ensuring everyone can experience the beauty of Sri Lanka.

We take pride in uplifting industry standards by focusing on continuous training and capacity building. Over the past two years, we have equipped chauffeur guides, suppliers, and staff with sustainability knowledge to drive meaningful change. Through initiatives like incubation centers in collaboration with academia, we empower the next generation of tourism professionals with practical skills and industry exposure. At the same time, we remain committed to improving decent working conditions, offering dedicated accommodation facilities and medical support for our service providers, ensuring their well-being and professional growth.

Beyond our operations, we continue to engage with communities and the environment. From contributing to local school renovations and conservation projects like the Rainforest Restoration Project to fostering child protection through forums with key stakeholders, Walkers Tours actively shapes a more responsible and equitable tourism landscape.
