Brewing Heritage: Walkers Tours Promotes the Heritage Coffee Trail Experience by Hotel Tree of Life

At Walkers Tours, we’re always on the lookout for unique and meaningful experiences that blend culture, sustainability, and authentic local encounters. In line with our ongoing commitment to responsible tourism and environmental stewardship, we’re proud to introduce a new immersive experience to our portfolio, the Heritage Coffee Trail by Tree of Life, Kandy.

Nestled in the lush landscapes, just 15–20 minutes from Kandy, the Heritage Coffee Trail is a five-hour guided journey (offered from 9 AM to 2 PM or 2 PM to 7 PM) that takes guests deep into the roots of Sri Lanka’s coffee culture. From the very first step, the trail feels like a scene from a tranquil film birds singing in the background, the forest gently whispering with every breeze, and the earthy aroma of roasted beans mingling with the fresh mountain air.

The experience begins with an engaging storytelling session about Sri Lanka’s two primary coffee varieties; Arabica and Robusta and how they found their way to the island centuries ago. As guests move along the trail, they pass through two types of agroforestry landscapes: one preserved purely for biodiversity enrichment, and the other managed with only eco-friendly practices. These landscapes are a living reflection of what Walkers Tours believes in travel that heals, educates, and uplifts the people.

Midway, participants enjoy a delightful pause: a cup of freshly brewed local coffee served on a rock amidst serene surroundings, accompanied by a homemade cookie, a moment of stillness that invites connection with nature. The trail then leads to a scenic viewpoint renowned for its high avian biodiversity, where over 80 species of birds can be observed in their natural glory. This is a paradise for bird enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

A highlight of the journey is the opportunity for guests to plant a coffee tree, tagged with their name and country, leaving behind a living memory in Sri Lanka’s soil, a personal contribution to reforestation and a symbolic gesture of sustainability. The trail concludes with a visit to the on-site coffee processing facility, where guests witness the transformation of beans from harvest to grind to packaging, a full cycle of the process of the journey from bean to cup.

To add a special touch, guests who participate in the trail are welcomed into a charming four-bedroom heritage bungalow on the estate, where a curated coffee tasting takes place. This space, rich in cultural value, offers a chance to savor locally brewed coffee while soaking in the stories and warmth of traditional Sri Lankan hospitality.

This trail aligns well with Walkers Tours’ long-standing dedication to sustainable tourism from community empowerment to environmental conservation. By promoting the Heritage Coffee Trail, we invite our partners to offer guests more than just an activity, but a soul-stirring experience rooted in culture, sustainability, and nature. Let’s continue to create journeys that make memories for lifetime.
