Inspiring Change: Walkers Tours shared how we are driving sustainable tourism in Sri Lanka

We were honored to contribute to the launch of the Global Case Study: How to Regulate the Issues of Voluntourism with Children, by sharing best practices in child protection within the tourism industry.

At this significant event, Sustainability Department Head, Ms. Dinanja Kumarasinghe from Walkers Tours Limited, presented practical, actionable approaches under the theme “What Works?”, highlighting our commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable populations within the communities we operate. We shared insights into the strategies and policies we have adopted to integrate child protection into all aspects of our operations.

Walkers Tours has been working closely with the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) and ECPAT Sri Lanka to develop and implement comprehensive child protection guidelines for tourism stakeholders across the value chain. This collaboration ensures that our business practices uphold the highest standards of child safety and ethical engagement.

We invite all tourism professionals, policymakers, and travelers to read the global case study is now published online: https://ecpat.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Voluntourism-Global-Case-Study.pdf. The publication features good practices from Sri Lanka that can be of inspiration to other business and countries, which would be helpful to understand the critical importance of responsible voluntourism and to join the movement in protecting children from exploitation.
