The London Grill Celebrates 50 Years of Culinary Legacy with Celebrity Chef Phillip Davenport

Cinnamon Grand Colombo recently commemorated the 50th anniversary of The London Grill, Sri Lanka’s most enduring fine-dining restaurant, with a golden jubilee celebration and an exclusive culinary collaboration featuring internationally acclaimed Chef Phillip Davenport.

Established in 1975, The London Grill has long stood as a symbol of timeless elegance and gourmet excellence in Colombo’s culinary landscape. From its early days in a converted colonial townhouse to becoming the benchmark for fine dining in Sri Lanka, the restaurant has remained committed to its founding principles—refined service, classic European cuisine, and an unwavering dedication to quality.

A Culinary Journey Through Five Decades
Over the last five decades, The London Grill has not only endured but continued to evolve in a dynamic and competitive dining environment. Its longevity has been fueled by its ability to uphold traditions while embracing change. A focus on premium ingredients, exceptional service, and consistency has helped the restaurant build lasting relationships with its patrons—many of whom have celebrated their own milestones within its elegant walls.

Speaking at the event, Cinnamon Grand Colombo’s General Manager and Area Vice President, Mr. Kamal, remarked, “Reaching 50 years in the restaurant business is a remarkable achievement. This milestone reflects the passion of our culinary and service teams, the loyalty of our guests, and the values that have defined The London Grill since its inception.”

Special Degustation Dinners with Chef Phillip Davenport
As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations, Chef Phillip Davenport led two exclusive six-course degustation dinners.

Chef Davenport, who trained at the Park Hyatt and Sheraton on the Park in Sydney, and gained recognition at Hugo’s in Bondi and KU DE TA in Bali, brought over three decades of global culinary expertise to the event. Known for hosting the hit Netflix series Eating Inn, his specially curated menus fused international innovation with the timeless character of The London Grill.

Also present at the celebration was Chef Kapila Jayasinghe, Cluster Executive Chef for Cinnamon Grand and Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, who continues to lead the culinary vision of the Cinnamon Colombo Hotels portfolio.
