A dedicated group of students from Bangalore recently undertook a remarkable CSR initiative in Sri Lanka, coordinated by the Walkers Tours Sustainability team and India market team.
The students got the opportunity to be part of a reforestation program and repair a school classroom. This impactful activity began with a visit from an architect, arranged by the agent, to Weddagala MMV school. The architect delivered the necessary funds directly to the school for the project. Mr. Rohan, head of the Cinnamon Hotels Sinharaja Restoration Project, led the coordination between Walkers Tours and the school, with vital support from Vice Principal Mr. Chamath and the students’ parents.
The project commenced with the architect leading efforts to replace the heavily damaged roof of a classroom. The students actively engaged in several transformative activities, including:
1. Repairing the classroom walls
2. Creating vibrant drawings on the classroom walls
3. Repairing the outer walls with a China mosaic
4. Crafting a set of railings for the staircase using clay blocks
5. Leveling the ground and laying cement blocks on the outer floors of the classroom
Thanks to the team’s hard work, the roofing was completed on schedule. Upon arrival, the Bangalore student group received a warm welcome from the school community. This collaboration not only improved the school’s infrastructure but also fostered a spirit of global solidarity and community service. Walkers Tours is proud to have facilitated this meaningful exchange and transformation.
