The Chinese New Year Festival at Long Feng, Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, was celebrated with great success on January 20th. The event was a grand showcase of cultural and culinary excellence, organized in collaboration with the Embassy of China in Sri Lanka. The festival was graced by the presence of Mr. Zhu Yanwei, the Deputy Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Charge d’Affaires, who attended as the Chief Guest, adding prestige to the occasion.
Guests were enthralled by the traditional lion dance, a mesmerizing performance deeply rooted in history and meaning. Dating back over a thousand years, the lion dance is a vital Chinese tradition that symbolizes strength, good fortune, and the warding off of evil spirits. The energetic dance, accompanied by rhythmic drumming, set a vibrant and jubilant tone for the festivities.
The cultural experience was further enriched with a graceful Chinese tea ceremony, reflecting the mindfulness and artistry of this ancient practice. Additionally, dynamic martial arts performances captivated the audience, demonstrating both strength and discipline.
A highlight of the festival was the delightful feast that catered to the senses. The culinary team, led by an esteemed guest chef and the talented chefs of Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, presented a delectable array of authentic Chinese delicacies, completing the immersive cultural experience.
