Sri Lanka’s Hiking and Trekking Tourism Market Estimated to Reach $1 Billion

Sri Lanka is famous for the country’s beautiful hill landscapes, luscious greenery, and breathtaking scenic sites, which has made it a haven among hikers and trekkers.

According to Future Market Insights (FMI), a US-based research firm, the revenue from hiking and trekking tourism in Sri Lanka is expected to grow from $834.7 million in 2024 to $1,673 million by 2034.

There has been a considerable demand for the hiking and trekking tourism sector in Sri Lanka as the nation’s varied landscape featuring dense jungles, tea plantations, and ethereal mountains promotes adventure.

FMI further stated, “Significant investments by the Government (of Sri Lanka) in the development of new infrastructure and routes aim to foster the expansion of the hiking and trekking industry. Consequently, hikers and trekkers now have more accommodation options and tour organizations providing guided walks and excursions.”

The report highlighted the Knuckles Mountain range and Ella Rock as having gained immense popularity as they provide diverse experiences for trekkers from all skill levels which in turn has led to a wider client base.
