Responsible Consumption

Reusable water bottles

Reusable water bottles

More plastic means less marine life. Plastic threatens many marine species. To understand the seriousness and urgency of the issue, just look at the numbers.

100 million marine animals die each year from plastic waste alone.
1 in 3 marine mammal species get found entangled in litter.
100,000 marine animals die from getting entangled in plastic yearly.

It's time to act!
We aim to make the tourism industry more sustainable, by offering a reusable alternative to single-use plastic bottles which has an immediate impact on reducing the amount of plastic waste in our ecosystem.

Together, we can significantly reduce plastic pollution across the island through sustainable tourism. Industry Standard 2 bottles per person per day x average 10-day stay = 20 single-use bottles per person. Please get in touch with your Tour Consultant to replace the plastic water bottles with reusable ones.

Plasticcycle

Plasticcycle is a Social Entrepreneurship Project taken up by John Keells Group with an aim to reduce plastic pollution, through encouraging reduction in the use of single-use plastics, supporting responsible disposal and promoting recycling initiatives. Plasticcycle launched in July 2017, with a vision of being a catalyst in significantly reducing plastic pollution in Sri Lanka. The mismanagement of plastic waste has resulted in our landfills and the environment exceeding their carrying capacities and Plasticcycle aims to initiate and support in implementing sustainable solutions to reduce plastic pollution.
Walkers Tours has contributed towards collecting over 4000Kg of plastic waste for recycling purposes by August 2021 through the sponsored 48 plastic collection bins at the southern expressway entry and exit points to further support the initiative. Furthermore, our staff engage in volunteer events which aim to educate the society to refuse, reduce, reuse and recycle plastics.
