my dream holiday starts right now

Unawatuna Beach

Like Hikkaduwa on the west coast, Unawatuna on the south coast, 10 minutes by bus from Galle railway station, began in response to demand by visitors. Discovered in the 1980s by young, independent travellers who liked the beautiful bay with year-round swimming, it has grown to be a major beach destination. While village homes have been expanded into guest houses, hotels have been built along the beach and interior bungalows have become boutique villas

Unawatuna is perhaps the liveliest beach resort in Sri Lanka; it is isolated from the main road and enjoys a sense of freedom that young at heart travellers appreciate. It seems there is a party somewhere on the beach every night, yet hotels and villas also offer a peaceful retreat for the more mature who want good swimming and gentle fun in the sun
