Sacred Moonlit Path
Night-Time Pilgrimage Hike

The Night-Time Pilgrimage Hike to Adam’s Peak, starting from Dalhousie (Nallathanniya), is an iconic Sri Lankan experience. During the pilgrimage season (typically December to May), thousands ascend the sacred mountain under the stars to witness a breathtaking sunrise and the mountain’s unique triangular shadow.

The most popular route from Dalhousie involves approximately 5,500 uneven steps over 5-7 kilometres, taking 3-5 hours to reach the 2,243 m summit. The path is well-lit during the season, with numerous tea stalls and rest points offering respite. Reaching the peak by 4:30-5:00 AM ensures a prime spot for the sunrise, a deeply spiritual and visually stunning reward for the challenging overnight ascent. Warm clothing is essential as temperatures drop significantly at the summit.
