Witness the captivating power of Ravana Falls, a spectacular waterfall nestled in Sri Lanka’s Uva Province, near the charming town of Ella. Standing at approximately 25 metres (82 feet) high, this cascade plunges dramatically from an oval-shaped concave rock outcrop.
Legend ties the falls to the ancient Indian epic, the Ramayana, suggesting that the mythical King Ravana hid Princess Sita in the caves behind the waterfall. During the wet season (typically May to September), the falls swell into a magnificent curtain of water, resembling an areca flower. Part of the Ravana Ella Wildlife Sanctuary, it’s a popular spot for sightseeing, photography, and even a refreshing swim in its natural rock pools.
