Located east of Kandy city, right by the Victoria Reservoir, the mountain is a showcase of the region’s cool-climate flora and fauna. Through dense forest, grassland, rocky outcrop, and a steep incline, the journey to the top navigates unspoiled natural surroundings, home to a variety of endemic wildlife.
Beyond its natural beauty, the mountain is closely tied to a spiritual history. The trailhead is situated within the Bambaragala Temple, an active place of worship that dates back 2,000 years.
Unlike more popular sites, the paths are not as clearly marked. However, guided excursions and advice from resident monks make the trek an adventure to remember.
