The Rekawa Turtle Hatchery showcases the most positive aspects of mankind’s environmental conservation efforts. The turtle hatchery puts in Herculean levels of effort to protect the turtles and turtle eggs that are found on the coastline. Many endangered species of turtles are found in Sri Lanka, including species like Loggerhead, Green, Hawksbill, Olive Ridley and the Leatherback turtle. You can visit the sanctuary at anytime of the year, but between April to July about 5-15 turtles visit the shores ever night, so try to plan your trip around that period.
