Mirissa Beach is a stunning crescent of golden sand and turquoise water, framed by swaying coconut palms. The western end is the most picturesque, with soft, wide sands and a gentle right-hand point break ideal for surfers. A popular feature is the sandbar connecting to a small island, walkable during low tide and a favourite for photography. While the beach exudes tropical charm, the eastern end has suffered from coastal erosion, now protected by concrete defences. The loss of palm shade, replaced by cafes and sun loungers, has changed its natural appeal. Despite modern intrusions, Mirissa remains a vibrant coastal hotspot for relaxation, surfing, and scenic strolls along one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic bays.
