Among Medieval Wonders
Medieval Dynasties at Polonnaruwa Ruins

A medieval stronghold that persevered through centuries, Polonnaruwa rose from the fall of Anuradhapura as one of Sri Lanka’s greatest dynasties. Established in the 11th century as the island’s second-oldest kingdom, Polonnaruwa is home to an extensive collection of ruins. Today, the archaeological park is a stunning showcase of ancient architecture and ingenuity, from its rock monastery (Gal Vihara) to the 55-metre stupa (Rankoth Vehara). Intricate granite edifices, royal palace pillars, and an ancient reservoir accompany the colossal ruins of this UNESCO Heritage Site.

Located along the stretch of the Cultural Triangle, Polonnaruwa’s ruins are an important stop on the journey through the island’s rich past. From traditional sightseeing to cycling tours, our excursions offer visitors an intimate encounter with the relics.
