Adams peak or Sripada, has been a popular pilgrimage site for many years. Revered by Muslims, Hindus, Christians and Buddhists alike, this climb is an experience of a life time. It is believed that during Lord Buddha's third visit to Sri Lanka, the summit of this mountain is where he placed his footprint. This is the reasoning behind the name Sripada (meaning sacred footprint). Muslims believe that this footprint belongs to Adam, while Christians believe it to be the holy footprint of St. Thomas; Hindus revere the peak for being the site of Lord Shivas footprint. It is evident that this mountain is a sanctuary for all faiths.
The lofty peak provides breath taking views of the country side and is also known for having the best view of the sunrise in Sri Lanka. Thousands commence their climb to the top at night, making it to the summit right in time for the rose hued sunrise. Many describe this pilgrimage as an awe-inspiring, moving experience that must not be missed. The climbing season is between the full moon in December (10th) until the full moon in May (5th). Walkers Tours will be happy to organise your Adam's peak experience during these months.
