Sri Lanka’s hill capital,
a former stronghold of the Sinhala Kings, is our most picturesque
city. The focal point of the town is , without doubt, the golden
roofed DALADA Maliga where the Scared Tooth Relic of Buddha is enshrined.
The highlight of the city’s calendar is the Esala Perahera,
when a replica of the casket is taken in procession for ten glittering
nights in July by exotically costumed dancers, drummers and approximately
100 elephants.
The Peradheniya Gardens begun as
a pleasure garden for an ancient Queen has an amazing variety of
trees, plants and flowers and is a place not to be missed.
